THE MAJESTIC FORTRESSES: CHUNAR AND RAM NAGAR TRIP

THE MAJESTIC FORTRESSES: CHUNAR AND RAM NAGAR TRIP

Starting from Rs3700 / per person
(0 Reviews)

Just 30 km south of Varanasi is the small town of Chunar, dominated by the great fortress overlooking the Ganga river. Ever since its semi-mythological founding by the ancient King Vikramaditya, Chunar has seen the passage of kingdoms and armies: Rajput, Lodi, Mughal and British. We visit the fortress and see the 13th century Sonwa Mandap palace as well as the dungeon used to hold prisoners, and the Indo-Saracenic house of Warren Hastings. The backdrop of the fort offers a fantastic view of the Ganga river untouched by towns and structures.

After a picnic lunch in a nearby Islamic tomb site, we then travel to Ram Nagar, the home of the Maharaja of Varanasi. First, we will visit a nearby exquisite temple constructed in the late 1800s, and thereafter we will enter Ram Nagar Fort to see the temple of Veda Vyas (the compiler of the Vedas) on the balcony of the Maharaja’s palace.

Come with us for an amazing day trip by air-conditioned taxi to two overlooked sites just next-door to Varanasi, and immerse yourself in a quick trip through rural India.
